Ravenscraig Castle

An imposing ruin with deep rock-cut ditch on a promontory between Dysart and Kirkcaldy. It was founded by James II in 1460, and the building accounts extending to 1463, are in part preserved. Later the castle passed into the hands of the Sinclair Earls of Orkney. It is remarkable both for the beauty of its ashlar masonry and also because it is perhaps the first British castle to be systematically designed for defence by fire-arms.
Situation. Located on the coast between Kirkcaldy and Dysart, Fife, Scotland.
