Kilchurn Castle

This castle dates from the middle of the fifteenth century when it was built by Sir Colin Campbell of Glenorchy, the founder of the Breadalbane family. It stands prominently in a marsh at the end of Loch Awe, in a situation of great natural beauty. The oldest part of the castle is a high, square tower. The additional buildings, erected in 1693, converted this once free standing tower into a castle surrounding an irregular courtyard. Located at the north-east end of Loch Awe, two miles west of Dalmally.
